Mundelein High School seeks tutors

The Mundelein High School AVID program needs several part time tutors for the 2011-12 school year. College students and college graduates are encouraged to apply. They must make a commitment for the entire academic year.

The AVID tutors will provide tutoring for small groups (five to seven students) two times per week, up to six hours per week, throughout the school year in various academic subjects. The AVID tutors guide students toward academic and personal excellence. The hours are from 7:45-11:30 a.m. Tuesdays or Thursdays. Salary is $12 per hour.

Responsibilities include the following:

Ÿ Conduct tutorial sessions with small groups in many subject areas.

Ÿ Determine students’ greatest academic needs.

Ÿ Work with students in any phase of the writing process (brainstorming, planning, revising).

Ÿ Be a positive role model for the high expectations set within the AVID Program.

Ÿ Evaluate student binders including classroom and textbook notes and/or assignment notebooks.

Ÿ Assist in teaching study skills and other aspects of college preparation.

Ÿ Collaborate with the AVID site coordinator, the AVID elective teacher and the AVID site team and other MHS personnel

AVID is a research-based educational program promoting and preparing students for college readiness and academic success through participation in a rigorous college preparatory curriculum. MHS offers 40 freshmen and sophomore students an AVID yearlong elective.
