Couple denies robbing Mundelein man during drug deal

A couple charged with robbing a man they set up a drug deal with pleaded not guilty Thursday in Lake County Circuit Court.

Jlee Grant, 28, and Kimberly Morris, 25, face up to seven years in prison if convicted of robbery but would also be eligible for probation.

Assistant State's Attorney Fred Day said Morris, of the 400 block of Fernwood Court in Vernon Hills, called a 21-year-old Mundelein man on July 16 and asked him to sell her some marijuana.

The man agreed and the pair made arrangements to meet in a park at 12:30 a.m. on July 17 to complete the transaction, Day said.

When the man arrived to meet Morris in the park, he was confronted by Grant, of the 500 block of Deepwoods Drive in Mundelein, who was hiding nearby, Day said.

Grant demanded the marijuana, which weighed a little less than an ounce, and also took $40 in cash from the man, Day said.

The victim was able to identify Morris and Grant, Day said, and Mundelein police arrested both at Grant's apartment about three hours after the crime.

Associate Judge Theodore Potkonjak scheduled a trial of the case for Oct. 17 and ordered Morris and Grant, who are held on $50,000 bond, to appear in court Sept. 20.
