Police: Cary teen stabbed brother in the back

A 17-year-old Cary boy has been charged as an adult after police said he stabbed his brother in the back in their family home late Tuesday afternoon.

A Flight for Life helicopter transported the 20-year-old victim from the home on the 400 block of Ann Street to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville after he was stabbed an unknown number of times, said Cary Police Chief Steven Casstevens.

Police said the brothers were having an argument while home alone before the younger brother stabbed his older brother in the back about 4:30 p.m.

The 17-year-old, whose name was not released Tuesday night because other family members haven't been notified, was charged with felony aggravated battery and a misdemeanor count of domestic battery, Casstevens said.

The knife was recovered at the scene, and the teen was arrested without incident, police said.

“I understand he is less than two months from his 18th birthday, so they decided — based on the totality of everything — to charge him as an adult,” Casstevens said.

Police said the stabbing victim is expected to survive.

The 17-year-old is being held at the McHenry County jail and is due in court Wednesday.
