Quick Caramel Brownies

40 caramels

½ cup evaporated milk, divided

1 box (18.2) Devil’s food cake mix

6 tablespoons butter, softened

1 egg

1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

1 cup mini semisweet chocolate chips

½ cup chocolate covered toffee bits (Heath bar bits)

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9-by-13-inch baking pan.Place the caramels (unwrapped) in a microwave-safe bowl with frac14; cup evaporated milk; microwave on HIGH for 1 minute and stir. Continuing cooking and stirring at 30-second intervals until the caramels are fully melted (don#146;t burn!).In a large bowl, combine cake mix, softened butter, frac14; cup evaporated milk, 1 egg, and chopped nuts; mix until well combined. Press two-thirds of the dough into the prepared pan and bake 8-10 minutes. Set remaining dough aside for the topping.Remove the crust from the oven and top with even layers of chocolate chips, toffee bits and caramel sauce.Shape small pieces of reserved dough into flat #147;puck#148; shapes and place on top of the caramel and chocolate layer. Bake 18-20 minutes or until the top layer of dough looks cooked and dry.Serves 24.
