Dist. 70 doesn’t need new administrator

As a longtime Libertyville resident and School Dist. 70 taxpayer, I applaud the initial effort to reduce redundant operations and share resources with Oak Grove School District 68 (See District 70 Views — Spring/Summer).

In the same announcement, I was shocked to learn that Dist. 70 judged it cost effective to hire a third administrator (a dean!?) to serve and protect three classes at Highland Middle School. Really? Between Principal Hallmark and Assistant Principal Bongle, the burden of educating three grade classes demands that the taxpayers pony up even more dollars to support an additional, unnecessary and manufactured position?

It is equally unsettling to learn this appointment is none other than board member Schwerman’s son-in-law. This is fiscally irresponsible and suspicious especially during these economically challenging times.

My private business is surviving largely through practicing austerity. What say you District 70?
