Improv in Libertyville holds auditions for “The Music Man Jr.”

Auditions for youth in third through ninth grades for the Improv Playhouse Showstoppers production of “The Music Man Jr.” will be from 4-6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at the Black Box Theatre in Libertyville.Callbacks are scheduled for 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, and rehearsals will begin Sept. 9 and continue from 4-6 p.m. Fridays and 1-3 p.m. Saturdays through Dec. 1.Performances are scheduled for the weekend of Dec. 2-4.#147;The Music Man Jr.#148; is the same musical comedy written by Meredith Willson but edited for young actors. The original show won five Tony awards, including Best Musical, and ran for 1,375 performances. The plot concerns con man Harold Hill, who poses as a boys#146; band leader and sells instruments and uniforms to naive townspeople before skipping town with the cash.In River City, Iowa, prim librarian and piano teacher Marian Paroo sees through him, but when Hill helps her younger brother overcome his fear of social interactions due to his lisp, Marian begins to fall in love with Harold.Harold, in turn falling for Marian, risks being caught to win her.
