Chicago girl, 6, shot while she slept

Authorities have identified the 6-year-old girl killed in a shooting on the city’s South Side that also left two teenagers injured.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office said the victim was Arianna Gibson. She was shot in the chest and arm and pronounced dead Sunday morning at a Chicago hospital.

Police said she was killed when at least one gunman fired shots into the window of a single-family house where Gibson was sleeping on the couch.

She had been visiting her grandmother for weekend and attended a back-to-school and neighborhood block party the day before. She would have started school on Monday.

No one is in custody in connection with the shooting. Chicago police said detectives are looking for a motive.
