Man convicted of abuse for breaking child's legs
ST. CHARLES — An Elgin man has been found guilty of breaking the legs of a child in his care.
Ricardo Robledo-Espino was convicted Monday of two counts of aggravated battery by Kane County Associated Judge Patricia Golden in a bench trial.
According to prosecutors, the 26-year-old Robledo-Espino on April 3, 2010 was watching the six-week-old child of his girlfriend when he became upset by her crying. He allegedly placed the infant on her back on a bed, grabbed her legs and pulled her toward him.
The mother later noticed swelling in the child's legs and took her to a doctor. A specialist diagnosed the infant's broken legs, with the type of fractures consistent with child abuse.
Golden set Robledo-Espino's sentencing for Oct. 4. He is being held in the Kane County Jail.
