Don’t cut trains or raise fares

What Metra does not need is a fare increase. It’s already $9 round trip from Arlington Heights and $13 round trip from Crystal Lake to Chicago. It’s ridiculously expensive already to take a family downtown for the Taste or to a museum.

The other thing Metra does not need is a reduction in service. There should never be more than an hour between trains. In the old days, when there were 2½ hours between trains at night, no one took the train down to see the opera. Then, trains were added, and now everyone takes the train to Lyric because there are no worries that missing a 9:30 train will mean waiting till midnight for a train home.

There will always be some people who must take Metra. The rest of us have options.
