Flood warning in effect for Des Plaines, DuPage rivers

The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for sections of the Des Plaines and DuPage rivers early Monday morning, affecting Cook and Will counties.

Moderate flooding is occurring and forecast for the Des Plaines River in Riverside, according to the warning, which is in effect until Tuesday morning. Homes near the junction of the river and Salt Creek have begun to see damage from the flooding.

Minor flooding is occurring and forecast for the East Branch of the DuPage River in Bolingbrook, according to the warning. The warning is only expected to continue through Monday evening for this river, with affected areas currently concentrated along Royce Road.

The National Weather Service reminds travelers to find an alternate route when encountering flooded roadways.
