Union vote on Honeywell contract stalled

METROPOLIS — A union vote on a three-year contract proposal that could end a 13-month lockout involving 230 workers at a southern Illinois plant that helps make nuclear fuel may be on hold.

John Paul Smith is a spokesman for the union representing the displaced Honeywell workers. He tells The Paducah Sun in Kentucky that the ratification vote that was to have been Tuesday has been postponed.

Smith adds that union members were to meet privately Monday and would be given time to thoroughly review the contract reached with the company last week.

No new date for the vote was immediately disclosed, though Smith said it still could come this week.

Messages left Monday with Smith and the union local's president were not immediately returned.
