Cougars' losing streak hits 5

The Kane County Cougars' losing streak reached five games Sunday with a 6-4 loss to the Great Lakes Loons at Elfstrom Stadium.

The five-game skid is the Cougars' longest home losing streak this season. They are 4-13 against the Eastern Division but still in at least a tie for the top playoff spot in the Western Division.

After not leading in any of their previous four games, the Cougars finally grabbed an advantage. Orlando Calixte hit a 2-run single to make it 2-0.

It was the Cougars' first lead in 36 innings.

The Cougars (13-10, 41-51) and Loons (14-9, 53-39) wrap up the series today at noon.

Bandits 4, Racers 0:

Donna Bourgeois, the recently signed undrafted rookie pitcher, performed at the level of an National Pro Fastpitch veteran, shutting out the host Akron Racers (12-12) as the Bandits (15-9) earned a series split with a 4-0 victory.

The former University of Houston star pitched a 3-hitter in 7 innings of work, walking just four batters.

University of Illinois rookie Danielle Zymkowitz paced the offense with a 3-run homer.

Red Stars 4, Nationals 0:

The Chicago Red Stars captured the Midwest crown on Sunday with another convincing victory, posting a 4-0 win over Midwest-North Division rival FC Milwaukee Nationals to advance to the quarterfinals of this year's Women's Premier Soccer League playoffs at Dublin, Ohio.
