Thanks, Mundelein for blood drive support

You can make a difference.

On behalf of the Mundelein Fire Department and the Mundelein Blood Committee, we would like to thank our community for the overwhelming support and turnout for our annual Firefighter’s Challenge Blood Drive held July 3 as part of the Mundelein Community Days kickoff. We were set on breaking our drive record and not only exceeded our goal, but set a new record for units collected at a single drive in Mundelein. In total, 123 units were collected and we received a record-setting 32 double red blood cell (Alyx) donations. Great job, Mundelein.

Under a new program with Life Source, this was the first drive that kicked off the 2011-2012 blood drive program for the fire service throughout the Chicago suburban area. Life Source has partnered with the Illinois Fire Chiefs Education and Research Foundation supporting a scholarship for firefighters providing critical continuing and advanced education for firefighters throughout the state. Many Mundelein firefighters have been the recipients of similar scholarships through the Foundation.

Donations from this drive will benefit 369 patients. If you couldn’t make this drive, you can still donate at the Lake Bluff or Lake Zurich Donor Centers and use code MN-10 when you register (donations must be made by July 30). Blood supplies are typically low during the summer and the winter holiday season.

Please watch for other drives in our community throughout the year at Mundelein High School, Santa Maria del Popolo Church and other locations. Each of these has special programs that benefit schools and churches and provide everyone in the community with the opportunity to donate.

Visit our Facebook page — Mundelein Blood Committee for additional information. Thank you again for such a successful event.
