Man charged with attack on 2 faces drug charges

A man accused in the brutal beating of two women during a robbery has been charged with smuggling marijuana into Cook County Jail.

Prosecutors say Heriberto Viramontes arranged to have his girlfriend bring in marijuana during visiting hours on June 11. Kira Lundgren was arrested as she left the jail.

The Cook County sheriff’s office says also arrested was jail guard Jerome Prusa of Westchester. Authorities say Prusa allowed a man, an undercover officer investigating smuggling, into a secure area of the jail to deliver the drugs to Viramontes.

Prusa is charged with official misconduct and bringing contraband into a penal institution.

Viramontes and his former girlfriend, March Cruz, are charged with attempted murder in the April 2010 attack on 23-year-old Natasha McShane of Northern Ireland and 24-year-old Stacy Jurich.
