Nostalgic reminder to let freedom ring
Since President Obama wrote the children’s’ book “Of Thee I Sing” for his daughters, I’ve wondered if many know the source of the title? It is from the song “My Country ‘Tis Of Thee.” Children used to learn the words along with the first verse of the Star Spangled Banner and America (taught to the tune of a hickory stick). “My country tis’ of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing. Land where our fathers died, land of the pilgrims’ pride, from every mountainside let freedom ring.” (Words from “My Country Tis’ of Thee.”)
