Quill hails court ruling on construction program

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn is hailing a ruling by the Illinois Supreme Court to uphold a law creating a $31 billion statewide construction program.

Quinn said Monday it was a very important ruling because the program puts people to work on a host of construction projects.

In its decision, the state's highest court rejected arguments that lawmakers had improperly mixed together different issues in a single piece of legislation as an appellate court ruled they did.

At stake was the construction program to fix roads, bridges and schools. The program enjoys bipartisan support from lawmakers who are anxious to get Illinois' economy going again with a steady stream of construction jobs.

Quinn proclaimed the program "full speed ahead."
