Man’s body found at Barrington-area pond

The unclothed, unidentified body of a black man who appeared to be in his 20s was discovered Wednesday morning at the edge of a pond in a Cook County Forest Preserve near South Barrington.

A passer-by noticed the body lying partly in the Penny Road Pond near the intersection of Penny and Old Sutton roads and called 911 at 9:06 a.m., said Cook County Forest Preserve police spokesman Mike Truppa.

The 911 call went first to South Barrington police who determined that Cook County Forest Preserve police had jurisdiction in the investigation, Truppa said.

An autopsy by the Cook County medical examiner’s office Thursday aims to determine both the identity and cause of death of the man, Truppa said.

The initial investigation did not determine the time of the man’s death nor whether it occurred where the body was found, Truppa said.

It’s not yet known whether the Cook County Sheriff’s Police or Cook County Forest Preserve Police would handle a long-term investigation should the autopsy results require one, he added.
