9-year-old Chicagoan shot in head

A 9-year-old boy is listed in critical condition after being shot in the head outside his father's Chicago home.

Authorities say the shooting happened at about 3:20 a.m. Wednesday in the city's Roseland neighborhood.

Police say the boy and his father had just finished watching television and playing video games when they went outside to let in the family's dog. That's when several shots rang out.

The boy's father wasn't injured.

Police say they don't believe the boy was the intended target. Authorities haven't released his name.

He's in critical condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

No one was in custody as of Wednesday afternoon.
