Ill. police: No charges in fatal bike accident

JERSEYVILLE — Illinois State Police won't pursue charges against a motorist who hit and killed a Missouri bicyclist last weekend in southwestern Illinois' Jersey County.

Authorities say 52-year-old Jennifer Wray Cole of St. Louis was killed in the accident shortly after noon Saturday.

Investigators say she was trying to make a left turn when a 61-year-old motorist from Carlinville tried to pass her, hitting the bicycle and throwing Cole from it.

She died later at a hospital.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch says the website for St. Louis' Washington University School of Medicine lists Cole as being an anesthesiologist with St. Louis Children's Hospital.
