5 arrested in Decatur dispute that left 1 man dead

DECATUR — Police in Decatur say they have five people in custody in connection with a dispute that left one man shot to death and his father wounded by a machete.

The Herald & Review newspaper in Decatur reports that four of those arrested were booked on preliminary charges of murder. The fifth faces potential obstruction of justice charges.

The arrests follow the shooting death of Christopher Kraft of Decatur outside his home on Tuesday. Police say a 48-year-old man was also wounded by gunfire, while Kraft's 52-year-old father suffered machete wounds to both hands.

David Dickerson, of the Decatur Police Department, says a confrontation broke out between two rival groups. He says the situation remains under investigation.

All of those arrested are between the ages of 18 and 23.
