WHAT:
Members of the public are invited to join local and state officials to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Joseph and Almeda Naper Homestead historic interpretive site.
An ad-hoc committee consisting of Naperville Heritage Society and City staff and volunteers recommended this property be transformed into a self-guided historic interpretive site commemorating Naperville's founding family, Captain Joseph and Almeda Naper. In October 2010, the State of Illinois announced that the Naperville Heritage Society/Naper Settlement received a $350,000 grant through the Public Museum Capital Grant Program for the Naper Homestead project. These funds will be used to construct the self-guided historic interpretive site, obtain exhibit signage and site artifact storage and seed money for future public art.
The groundbreaking will feature historic artifacts and archeological shards from two on-site archeological digs managed by the Naperville Heritage Society in 2006 and 2007.
WHEN:
3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6
WHERE:
338 W. Jefferson Ave., located at the southeast corner of Jefferson Avenue and Mill Street. Parking for the groundbreaking will be available throughout downtown Naperville.
