State treasurer to offer bank vault tours

SPRINGFIELD — Visitors to the Illinois State Capitol will soon get the chance to walk through an old bank vault.

Illinois State Treasurer Dan Rutherford is offering tours later this month. He says it's a good chance to show it off.

The vault is used to store items of unclaimed property, like baseball cards or Elvis Presley tickets.

The 30-minute public tours are July 11 to 15.

Other than the vault, visitors will get to see the first Illinois treasurer's money box dating to 1818.

Rutherford plans to limit each tour to 25 people.
