Libertyville police focusing on DUI enforcement this weekend

Libertyville police will focus on impaired drivers and safety belt violators as part of an intensified enforcement effort during the Fourth of July holiday weekend. The effort will focus mainly on late-night hours as statistics show a disproportionate number of traffic deaths occur at that time and involve a drinking driver and/or unbuckled motorist. Libertyville police joins the Illinois State Police and nearly 300 local police and sheriff’s departments in a statewide effort that began June 17 and runs through July 4. Data shows that between July 2 and July 5 last year, 10 people died in motor vehicle crashes in Illinois. Seven of those fatalities involved a drinking driver.
