Sox heading toward BP Cup

By Mike Spellman

Big L over the el:

The heat wave never materialized Friday at Wrigley Field.

And neither did the Cubs first three-game winning streak ... of the season.

Now it makes sense:

Should have figured with black and gray being the dominant colors overhead to start the day that black and gray would be the dominant colors to end it as well.

The White Sox have now won three straight in the city series.

Can anyone say BP Cup?

Dayan who?:

Juan Pierre supporters unite!

Two games, two game-winning hits. Oh, and 5 RBI in those two games.

Not too shabby.

Interesting stat:

Aramis Ramirez's home run in the sixth was the 300th of his career.

Interesting stat II:

Alfonso Soriano only swung at 16 breaking pitches in the dirt.

A-Ram, meet A-Ram:

An inning after Aramis Ramirez's homer, Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez blasted out one of his own — a game-tying 2-run shot that's probably still going.

Clutch indeed. Now, about your hustle on that dropped-third strike an inning later …

Question:

What kind of a gem do the White Sox have in closer Sergio Santos? Simply made the Cubs look silly in the ninth inning to pick up his 18th save.

Like clockwork:

Of course, as soon as the first pitch is thrown the weather updates begin to scroll. C'mon!

Flashing the Tuscadero:

You may not see a better play by a shortstop this year than the one Starlin Castro made from deep in the hole on Brent Morel.

The quote:

“Only 10 games out!”

— Actor, Cubs fan and eternal optimist John Cusack on the NL Central standings ... as of the seventh inning.
