Arlington Heights offers whooping cough vaccines

Arlington Heights is making available low-cost vaccines for pertussis, better known as whooping cough. The vaccines also cover tetanus, and are available for all adults, but especially encouraged for those who care for infants.

Pertussis is particularly dangerous for infants because they cannot receive have all their shots until they are 18 months or older.

The village’s Health Services Department is offering the vaccines for $10 at its Wellness and Immunization clinics, thanks to funding supplied through a grant.

The clinic is open at village hall, 33 S. Arlington Heights Road, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Mondays and 8:30 to 10 a.m. Thursdays. The vaccinations also can be obtained at the clinic from 5 to 7 p.m. the third Monday of each month.

After the supply purchased with the grant is gone, the vaccine will be offered at cost, which is currently $40. For information call the Health Services Department at (847) 368-5760.
