Be it counseling, education, support groups or even fitness and art therapies, the Wellness Place in Palatine offers a gamut of programs to those affected by cancer — all at no charge.
But those services are completely reliant on donations and grants, making the nonprofit organization’s fundraisers especially vital.
One of its biggest is the 13th annual Wellness Challenge Golf Classic, which will take place Thursday, July 28 at the Twin Orchard Country Club, 22353 Old McHenry Road, Long Grove.
“The Wellness Challenge is an opportunity for our community to come together to support those individuals who are directly affected by cancer,” Wellness Place Executive Director Pamela Reiss said.
The event begins at 11:30 a.m. with registration and lunch, followed by a 1 p.m. shotgun start, and then cocktails and dinner. The night will feature player prizes, a live auction and brief naming ceremony for the Wellness Place’s newly dubbed Stuart W. Porter Prostate Cancer Resource Center.
The event used to take place on a Monday, but organizers hope a Thursday afternoon date will increase attendance. The format is now a best-ball scramble to help the round go by quicker.
Tickets to golf are $550 per person or $2,000 per foursome. Tickets to the evening reception are $100 per person.
