A Rockford man has been charged after an off-duty police officer spotted him exposing himself and inappropriately touching other men at a St. Charles fitness club Monday afternoon, police said.

An off-duty officer from a separate jurisdiction was working out at XSport Fitness Club, 238 N. Randall Road, when he spotted the acts, took the man into a manager's office and called police about 3 p.m. Monday.

Lawrence E. Adamczyk, 47, was taken into custody without incident and later charged with three counts of battery and one count of public indecency, police said.

Police interviewing members of the gym determined Adamczyk approached and inappropriately touched three men while they were either working out or playing basketball and exposed himself while walking around in various parts of the gym, St. Charles Police spokesman Paul McCurtain said.

"It was a continuous act," he said.

Adamczyk was released after posting bail. He is due in court at 10 a.m. July 21.
