Ill. teen arrested in mother's stabbing death

PARIS, Ill.— A 16-year-old eastern Illinois boy has been arrested in his mother's stabbing death.

Court officials in Edgar County say two first-degree murder charges were filed Monday against Terry Payton of Paris in the stabbing death of 53-year-old Kathie Payton. Police say she was killed in her home last Thursday. An autopsy found that she died of multiple stab wounds.

Court officials say Terry Payton has not entered a plea. He's being held at a juvenile detention center in Danville but is being charged as an adult.

Edgar County State's Attorney Mark Isaf declined to discuss the case.

Public Defender Kaye Dent was appointed Monday to represent Payton. She did not return a call from The Associated Press.

Payton is scheduled to appear in court June 30.
