Wabash Co. eligible for disaster aid

MOUNT CARMEL, Ill. — A southeastern Illinois county has been added to the list of 14 other counties eligible for federal disaster grants and low-interest loans for recovery efforts after recent flooding and severe storms.

Wabash County's eligibility comes after properties there were damaged or destroyed in recent tornadoes or flooding.

Other counties already approved for federal disaster assistance included Alexander, Franklin, Gallatin, Hardin, Jackson, Lawrence, Massac, Perry, Pope, Pulaski, Randolph, Saline, White and Williamson.

The federal disaster declaration makes assistance available including grants to individuals and households to help with temporary housing, home repairs or replacement and other disaster-related expenses. Residents and businesses also may apply for low-interest loans.
