Be proud of our athletes’ character

Well, the Stanley Cup doesn’t belong to Chicago anymore, but I’m glad it’s going to Boston rather the thugs in Vancouver. Chicago can be proud of the character of the Blackhawks with such examples as Jonathan Toews, Duncan Keith and their teammates, led by Coach Joel Quenneville. The Blackhawks will be back in contention for many more years and will continue to be a team of which Chicago can be proud.

I was also very glad to see the Dallas Mavericks defeat cocky Miami. It was good that Dirk Nowitzki and his team humbled the likes of LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, the preordained favorites to take it all. Here, too, Chicago can be proud of the team the Bulls have put on the court, led by MVP Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah and Luol Deng and coached by Tom Thibodeau. This young team will also serve Chicago proud in coming years.

It’s good to see Chicago represented by such good young men of character, who are also so highly blessed with supreme athletic abilities that haven’t gone to their heads. We know too well how rare this is in the business of sports.
