President needs history lesson

The idea put forth by President Obama that Israel must withdraw to its 1967 boundaries is worse than folly, it’s borderline ridiculous. The president, whom I often admire, is in this case demonstrating a serious lack of historical understanding.

Mr. President, many nations have expanded at the expense of their nearest neighbors. We did! Consult your history books and learn the fate Native American Indians experiences in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries and the Republic of Mexico in the 1840s.

If this is an attempt to placate radical Islam it just won’t work. They will continue to despise us despite this transparent effort. They hate us for our presence in the Middle East and will continue to do so unless we totally withdraw from the region.

Tragically, force is the only thing they understand and willingness to negotiate is seen as a weakness.

Are we catering to more moderate available regimes in the area? If so, we must not seem too nasty in dealing with a tried and true ally, Isreal, especially since they occupy the most holy place in the Judeo-Christian tradition.

But we have real friends and they must be protected. Now, Mr. President, may I suggest that before you put forth any new plans, bone up on your history and get good advice. Isreal deserves our protection.
