Gov. Quinn promises 'some changes' in state budget

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn is promising "some changes" in the state budget lawmakers sent him.

The Chicago Democrat said he is working on the budget in advance of the state's new fiscal year that starts July 1.

He says his priorities include education, job creation, human services, health care and public safety.

The budget lawmakers approved imposes the biggest hits on education, human services and the workers who deliver them.

Quinn acknowledged it was "a tough budget time" but promised to do the "best we can" for those priorities.

Lawmakers have defended their budget as an effort to control spending.

Quinn said he'll look at the lawmakers' budget and then make changes because he says the legislature doesn't dictate everything. He would use his veto power to make the changes.
