Peavy primed to rejoin rotation

Remember Jake Peavy?

In between lat and groin injuries, he's managed to make 6 starts for the White Sox this season.

No. 7 is on tap tonight, when Peavy is officially activated off the disabled list to pitch against the Cubs.

Since being acquired in a July 31, 2009 trade from the San Diego Padres for Clayton Richard and three other pitchers, Peavy has dealt with a bad ankle, a sore elbow, a detached lat in his posterior right shoulder and a sore right groin.

“I'm tired of battling injuries,” said Peavy, who is 2-1 with a 4.66 ERA with the Sox this season. “There is nothing I could have done different. It's not like I can get any more treatment by doing anything more with (conditioning coach) A.T. (Allen Thomas) to stay healthy. I've done all I can do.

“It's just up to the good Lord to look after my health and hopefully I can stay healthy for the next three or so months. It's just frustrating time after time to talk about health.

“I know it's been the recurring theme of my time here in Chicago. It's such a big difference from the first eight years of my career in San Diego, but hopefully we can put all this to rest and I can pitch for the next year and a half here in Chicago and help this team and be an integral part of the team.”

Peavy is looking forward to facing the rival Cubs tonight after making a rehab start for Class AAA Charlotte last Thursday and pitching a 2-hit shutout over 6 innings while piling up 9 strikeouts.

“What's not to look forward to?” Peavy said. “You guys see how the crowd gets excited. It's just fun pitching when there is a little more energy. When you go to Fenway, when you go to Yankee Stadium, when you play in this type of series there is always a little more adrenaline and that gets you through some tough innings.”

In 10 career starts against the Cubs, Peavy is 5-2 with a 2.40 ERA.

Beckham watch:Gordon Beckham was held out of the starting lineup again on Tuesday, but he is expected back tonight after sitting out three straight games.Beckham is in an 0-for-12 rut and has just 2 hits in his last 21 at-bats.#8220;The same thing I did to (Adam) Dunn and (Alex) Rios, I'm doing to him,#8221; manager Ozzie Guillen said. #8220;It's not a punishment, just refresh his mind to go back and play again.#8221;Stick with six:

Now that Jake Peavy is back, the White Sox are going to be using six starting pitchers again.

That might change after the all-star break, but Peavy said the Sox should stay with the crowded rotation.

#8220;I don't see how they can change it, to be honest with you,#8221; Peavy said. #8220;Who do you take out? That's what blows my mind. Phil Humber has been as good as anybody in baseball. He's been the ace of this staff so to speak, the way he has pitched and the numbers. He's not going anywhere. And us five that were penciled in to start the year, I don't know. It's a tough spot for everybody to be in.#8221;
