Wheeling Park District unveils Heritage Park redevelopment plan

The Wheeling Park District will conduct a public meeting Wednesday to unveil the plan for the redevelopment of Heritage Park. The construction project, which is set to begin in 2012, is in partnership with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.

In 2008, the park district went through an extensive public process to plan and design the Heritage Park Master Plan, and a year later began discussions with MWRD to provide for compensatory water storage within the park as part of the Des Plaines River Levee 37 project.

The two entities signed an intergovernmental agreement in 2010 to provide recreational and natural amenities. Wednesday’s meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the Wheeling Park District Community Recreation Center, 333 W. Dundee Road, Wheeling. For information, call (847) 465-3333.
