Votes sought in Deer Park singing contest

Thirty-five individuals and groups have now entered Deer Park Town Center’s “Sing!” program — a national vocal talent competition taking place this summer.

From now through July 15, visitors to the competition website at deerpark.2011sing.com can vote once a day, every day, for their favorite entry.

The 10 performers with the most votes, as well as two alternates identified by Deer Park Town Center, will move on as semifinalists to perform live at the center on Sept. 17 and 24.

The pool of 12 semifinalists will be narrowed to three by a panel of local judges and audience text voting at the live performances. Another round of online voting will follow to identify one finalist to represent Deer Park Town Center and compete against 10 other groups from across the country and Puerto Rico in the fall.

A final online and text vote will determine the grand prize-winning singer or group, to be announced Nov. 1.

The groups and individuals vying to represent the local area are Do-Wop Crop performing “Brown Eyed Girl”; Amanda Feo performing “Because You Loved Me”: Mia Llerandi with “Don’t Know Why”; Heather Moran with “Fly Me to the Moon”; Erin Fisher with “Beautiful”; Bianca Ciarroni with “Some Kind of Wonderful”; Taylor Welborn with “Stay”; Kourtney Bradfish with “Imagine”; Freda Humble with “Crazy on You”; Jamie Anne Dowat with “My Heart Will Go On”; Encore! with “Bridge Over Troubled Water”; Janey Age with “Yesterday”; Yeavin Lee with “Beautiful”; Bare Voices with “Build Me Up, Buttercup”; Sarah, Bianca & Taylor with “Stand Up for Love”; Sarah Guilianelli with Alicia Keys’ “Falling”; Karen B with Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful”; Kate Diaz with Maroon5’s “Misery”; Donna Galloway with “Mambo Italiano”; Kelly Johlie with “And I am Telling You I’m Not Going”; The Guys with “Istanbul”; Canticum Choir with “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”; Anna Paniagua with Nine Inch Nails and Johnny Cash’s “Hurt”; The 5 Starts with “The Climb”; Rebecca Henn with “Vegas”; Treble in Paradise with “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”; Zoe Ivanov with “Make You Feel My Love”; Martin James Hughes with “I’m a Believer”; Caity Kania with Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”; PowerHouse with “The Circle of Life”; Michaela Laws with “Stay”; Midnight Blues with “Coffee in a Cardboard Cup”; Megan Kleeman with “To Make You Feel My Love”; An Octave Above with “Separate Ways”; and Alexis Nguyen with “Stuck Like Glue.”
