IDOT executive used cocaine, drank on job

CHAMPAIGN — State inspectors say a former high-ranking official with the Illinois Department of Transportation used cocaine and vodka on the job while meeting with a woman whom he told he would help find a state job.

A report from the state Office of Executive Inspector General released Tuesday says that former IDOT Chief of Business Services James McDaniel engaged in those activities in 2009.

The report says the woman's husband filed a complaint.

The report says McDaniel left his job in September 2010 after admitting to using cocaine and vodka while with the woman. State inspectors said some of these meetings happened while he was supposed to be at work.

McDaniel could not be immediately located by The Associated Press. He was paid $84,000 a year when he left his job.
