Music events: 'Glee Live!' a homecoming of sorts

Hometown hit

In a way, the arrival this weekend of the “Glee Live! In Concert!” show to the Northwest suburbs is a homecoming event, as the co-creator of the television show “Glee” is Mount Prospect native Ian Brennan. Brennan based the concept on his own show choir experiences at Prospect High School. Now, of course, the show is a national phenomenon, and this concert tour will give fans (or, um, “Gleeks”) a chance to see some of the most memorable numbers from the first two seasons performed live by cast members. 8 p.m. Friday, June 3; 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday, June 4; at the Allstate Arena, 6920 N. Mannheim Road, Rosemont. $41.50 to $91.50; :http://www.ticketmaster.com" target="_blank">ticketmaster.com.

Rapid-fire rapper

Multiplatinum-selling hip-hop artist Twista, a Chicago native, brings his astoundingly fast and intricate rhyming style to the suburbs this weekend. Twista, who has performed with such rap stars as Kanye West and Ludacris, is touring in support of his 2010 record #8220;The Perfect Storm#8221; (Get Money Gang Entertainment). Twista performs with Shawwna and Lebowski at 6 p.m. Friday, June 3, at the Penny Road Pub, 545 Penny Road, South Barrington. $30 at the door; myspace.com/pennyroadpub.

Still surfing

When it comes to the Beach Boys, I'm firmly part of Team Brian Wilson. But Mike Love and the rest of the group have done well since splitting with their former leader, and they'll be letting loose those wonderful melodies and harmonies at a show next week in Chicago. 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at the Auditorium Theater, 50 E. Congress Parkway, Chicago. $30-$75; :http://www.ticketmaster.com" target="_blank">ticketmaster.com.
