Two charged in Woodstock murder

A husband and wife have been charged after police said the owner of an Island Lake bar who was responding to a prostitution ad on Craigslist was found murdered late Saturday night in unincorporated Woodstock.

Kurt Milliman, 48, of Prairie Grove was found shot at the home of Timothy and Kimberly Smith on the 4300 block of Doty Road at about 11 p.m. Saturday and died soon after at Centegra Woodstock Memorial Hospital, according to police.

The McHenry County state's attorney's office charged Timothy Smith, 26, of the 4300 block of Doty Road, with first-degree murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm, pimping and pandering.

Smith's wife, Kimberly, 28, who lives at the same address, was charged with two counts of obstructing justice, disorderly conduct and prostitution.

Milliman, who unsuccessfully ran for a seat on the McHenry County Board in 2008 and for village president of Prairie Grove in 2009, was the owner of Dirty Hog Saloon in Island Lake.

Officers responded to a 911 call from one of the Smiths late Saturday who reported an “unwanted person” at their home, where responding officers found Milliman with a gunshot wound, said McHenry County Undersheriff Andrew Zinke.

A police investigation found that Millikan solicited prostitution services from an ad the Smiths had posted on Craigslist, according to police.

Police said Milliman had vital signs when they arrived. He was immediately provided first aid and rushed to the hospital about a block from the home.

The two suspects, whose prior run-ins with the law include traffic offenses and misdemeanor charges, are expected in bond court Monday morning.

Police said the Smiths were cooperative at the scene and were brought into custody without incident.

Zinke said there is no threat to the general public and no other suspects are at large.

Zinke added Saturday's homicide was the county's first in 2011.
