Volunteers sought for VH derby

Volunteers are being sought to work at the Jim & Helen Heier Annual Fishing Derby & BBQ, Sunday, June 26, at Big Bear Lake, Century Park in Vernon Hills. Seventy five veterans from the VA hospital will be guests from about 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will be provided with lunch, goody bags, and a couple of hours of fishing or enjoying the day. Assistance is needed with cooking/serving food; setting up and baiting fishing poles; removing, weighing and counting fish; distributing gifts and prizes. Volunteers will be needed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Any time that can be donated is appreciated. Families are welcome. Veterans enjoyed the kids who came out last year and listened to their stories.
