Libertyville celebrates senior health and fitness

The Libertyville Sports Complex will host a special health and fitness class and mini health fair on Wednesday, May 25.

As an official host site, the sports complex and Libertyville Civic Center will join an estimated 1,000 local events that day to celebrate the 18th Annual National Senior Health & Fitness Day.

Personal trainers will join with an estimated 100,000 seniors across the country to help promote active, healthy lifestyles through physical fitness, good nutrition and preventive care.

“Our Fun with Fitness Class is a wonderful opportunity for seniors to make, renew, and revitalize their commitment to live healthier lives through better health and fitness,” according to Karen Meserve, fitness & membership supervisor at the sports complex.

Senior activities will be featured at two Libertyville locations: At 9:30 a.m. a free fitness class and refreshments will be offered at the sports complex, Route 45 and Peterson Road; and, at 11 a.m. a free activity session, blood pressure and spine checks will be available at the Libertyville Senior Center, 135 W. Church St., in the downtown area.

National Senior Health & Fitness Day is always held on the last Wednesday in May in support of Older Americans Month and National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. It is coordinated by the Mature Market Resource Center.
