Illinois House holding redistricting hearing

The public gets another chance to weigh in on the state's proposed new legislative districts.

The Illinois House is having a public hearing Sunday in Chicago on its proposed redistricting map. The Illinois Senate had a hearing on Saturday.

Both have released proposed maps with new legislative districts. A map of new congressional districts has not yet been released. Lawmakers are going through the once-a-decade ritual of redrawing the state's legislative districts based on new U.S. Census numbers.

Democrats are in charge because they control the Legislature and the governor's office. The proposed maps from the Senate and House create new political turf and lump together some Republicans in the same territory, which will cost some of them their jobs.
