Hanover Park requires pawnbrokers to upgrade record-keeping

The village of Hanover Park will now require anyone who deals in secondhand articles, such as antique dealers and pawnbrokers, to upgrade their record-keeping system so that detailed transaction information is recorded into a computerized database by the end of the day.

Previously, village ordinance only required dealers to maintain an ink and paper ledger with limited information, which police said made investigations into the disposal of stolen property less efficient.

The village will provide training and technical assistance to business owners, and pass along costs through increased business license fees.
