The Lake County Forest Preserve District board could vote in June to approach private companies to build and operate a new golf course at the Fort Sheridan Forest Preserve near Highland Park. During a committee discussion Tuesday, officials estimated building a new course and public amenities could cost $14 million. The board has been wrestling with the issue for years. If the board opts not to seek a private-sector partner for the course, the panel will have to come up with a new direction for the site, which last allowed golf in 2003.
