A 72-year-old woman remains in critical condition at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville after being in a car accident early Tuesday evening, police officials said.

Police officials said a 73-year-old male from Carpentersville did not have the right of way when he tried to make a left turn in his 2000 convertible Chevrolet Corvette from northbound Randall Road onto Huntley Road.

A 53-year-old male Gilberts resident driving a 1998 Ford Ranger pickup truck struck the Corvette in the passenger side door at 6:23 p.m., where the 72-year-old wife was sitting.

She was taken by helicopter to Condell, where she remains in the intensive care unit, police officials said.

Both the driver of the convertible and the driver of the pickup were taken by ambulance to Sherman Hospital in Elgin with nonlife-threatening injuries, officials said.

Both vehicles were heavily damaged in the crash, according to authorities.

The traffic accident remains under investigation by the Carpentersville Police Department and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team, officials said.

Portions of Huntley and Randal Roads were shut down after the accident while the incident was cleaned up.

No one has been cited for the crash, therefore their names were withheld by the Carpentersville police Department, officials said.
