Chicago teen dies while playing basketball

CHICAGO — Authorities in Chicago say a 17-year-old boy collapsed and died while playing basketball during an event at Marist High School.

The Cook County medical examiner's office says Paul Simmons Jr. was pronounced dead early Friday. Police say the high school senior was attending a "lock-in" at the school when he collapsed in the gym at about 11:25 p.m. Thursday.

The Chicago Tribune reports that he died at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

There's no word yet on a cause of death.
