Arlington Heights police looking for the Honda burglars

Arlington Heights police are searching for links between a pair of vehicular burglaries and a car theft overnight Tuesday in parking lots surrounding South Goebbert Road, officials said.

The three break-ins have many similarities aside from the locations where they occurred, said Doug Hajek, crime prevention officer from the Arlington Heights Police Department.

All three vehicles were late model Hondas, all featured radios that did not come standard with the vehicles and all took place between 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and 5:50 a.m. Wednesday, Hajek said.

“We can't say for sure that the three burglaries are related, but it definitely seems that way,” he said. “We won't know for sure until we catch someone and talk with them.”

The first reported burglary took place between 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. Wednesday in a condominium parking lot in the 2400 block of South Goebbert Road.

Hajek said there were no signs of forced entry to the green 1994 Honda Accord, but the victim reported the doors of the vehicle were locked when parked Tuesday. A JVC radio CD player valued at $120 was stolen.

The second break-in took place in the 600 block of East Falcon Drive, at the corner of Falcon and South Goebbert, Hajek said. This time, a red 1993 Honda Civic was burglarized at some point between 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

The burglars shattered the driver's window to enter the vehicle, and stole a Sony radio and CD player valued at about $350, Hajek said.

In the third break-in, thieves stole the entire car, a 1994 blue Honda Civic from the 2200 block of South Goebbert Road, Hajek said. The theft took place between 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and 5:50 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

The vehicle has light blue front and rear bumpers and white rims, with a sticker across the window that reads “Honda Racing,” Hajek said.

No glass or other signs of forced entry was noticed on the pavement, but the owner of the vehicle reported the doors were locked when it was parked Tuesday, Hajek said.

“At this point, I cannot say why the vehicles targeted were late model Hondas,” he said. “I'm sure that's something investigators are trying to understand.”
