Red Stars will call Benedictine U. home

The Chicago Red Stars on Monday confirmed they will play this season in the Women’s Premier Soccer League, using Benedictine University in Lisle as their home turf.

The Red Stars, who are taking the year off from Women’s Professional Soccer after failing to get enough investors, will field a lineup of former WPS players and college players. Among the players to wear the Red Stars’ colors are former Geneva star Jackie Santacaterina, Neuqua Valley’s Michele Weissenhofer, Elk Grove native Elise Weber, former Waubonsie Valley midfielder Bri Rodriguez and Batavia’s Julie Ewing.

Weissenhofer, Santacaterina and Weber all played briefly for the Red Stars last season.

Former St. Viator coach Rory Dames will guide the team on the field.

The Red Stars’ home opener is July 2.
