House damaged in Carpentersville fire

No one was hurt in a house fire Friday night in Carpentersville, but the structure is now uninhabitable, authorities said.

On Saturday morning, one of the owners said eight family members lived in the house, but no one was home when the fire began.

The call came about 9:15 p.m. Friday, and when emergency crews arrived, flames were coming out of a basement window well of the house on the 100 block of Park Avenue, Carpentersville Fire Batallion Chief Bob Beattie said.

Firefighters forced their way inside through a basement side door and found heavy smoke and fire in a kitchen, Beattie said. The kitchen fire was extinguished but had already burned a large hole through the first-floor living room, he said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Beattie said.

Several fire agencies responded to the initial call, including the Rutland-Dundee Township Fire Protection District and crews from East Dundee, Fox River Grove, Cary, Barrington and West Dundee, Beattie said.
