Taking cue from Haley Reinhart, Harper hosts Hawks Idol contest

By Kimberly Pohl

Perhaps taking a cue from classmate Haley Reinhart, Harper College’s Campus Activities group is sponsoring the inaugural Harper Hawk Idol contest.

The singing competition will channel FOX’s “American Idol,” on which 20-year-old Harper student Reinhart of Wheeling became a finalist.

The event will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, which is Harper’s Student Appreciation Day. Singers will take the stage in the Quad area of campus, located at 1200 W. Algonquin Road, Palatine.

Heading up the event is Buffalo Grove graphic arts major Aaron Wagner, who said up to 15 contestants will perform. Only Harper students are eligible to compete.

And just like “American Idol,” contestants will sing with a live band in the background. In this case, Chicago group Live Band Karaoke will provide the music and lyrics.

A three-person panel of Harper faculty and staff will judge each round and decide who’s most worthy of the $100, $50 and $25 prizes.

For more information, call the Student Activities Office at (847) 925-6242.
