Music events: Duran Duran at HOB

Brit popsters return

Whenever I think back to my middle-school years, I think Duran Duran. Songs like “Hungry Like a Wolf” and “Rio” formed the soundtrack to those early-'80s years, in part because of their catchy pop rhythms and in part because of the then-new phenomenon of MTV, which turned the stylish Simon Le Bon and the rest of the band into international superstars. Duran Duran has experienced a comeback in recent years. In March the group released a new record, “All You Need is Now,” and it's in the midst of a world tour, which includes a stop in Chicago this weekend.

9 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at House of Blues, 329 N. Dearborn, Chicago. Tickets cost $48. Go to houseofblues.com.

Strutting again

Fans of the disco era can relive those crazy days of leisure suits and platform shoes by attending “Stayin' Alive: The Bee Gees Tribute,” the loving tribute to the British band whose propulsive beats and smooth falsettos had disco-lovers everywhere dancing the night away back in the 1970s.

8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 22-23, at the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre, 111 W. Campbell St., Arlington Heights. Tickets cost $35 to $40. Go to metropolisarts.com.

Roots rock

Ed Anderson, lead singer of Illinois roots-pop band Backyard Tire Fire, will make a special solo appearance (with some special guests) in the suburbs this weekend.

9 p.m. Friday, April 22, at Chord on Blues, 106 S. 1st Ave., St. Charles. For ticket info, call (630) 513-0074.
